Hundreds of acres of rolling, lush vineyards, award-winning wines like Pinot Gris, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc, easy to enjoy Chambourcin and Vidal Blanc as well as local favorites made from native varieties draw tens of thousands of visitors each year for touring and sampling. The tiny parcel of land also is home to well over half of the winegrape acreage in the state.Īs the cool winds blowing over the icy lake slow growth of tender buds in the spring and the gentle warm breezes extend the summer season into fall, and the valleys collect cold frosty spring air, winegrowing families of the area celebrate their ability to grow some of the finest grapes anywhere in the nation. Cotton and his wife are welcoming and very entertaining too.Along the south shore of Lake Erie, through the valley created by the mighty Grand River, atop the ridges carved by ancient glaciers and in tiny microclimates nearby, northeast Ohio boasts more wineries per square mile than in any other region. I had a tough time finding it as a non local and ended up being unable to procure any. However, the hard part is the fact that you have to buy the spirits they make at the local liquor store. Cotton, the owner, served me his homemade rum with creamer, and it was out of this world! Really, this is the only place I would bother getting my rum from, besides Haitian rum, of which I am a fan. BUT, the rums and sorghum whiskey that Mad County makes are OUTSTANDING! I cannot stress this fact enough. I'm not usually a whiskey or rum drinker because the taste is usually disagreeable to me. The wine is great, but what really sold me on this place were the homemade rums and whiskeys. If you like sweet wines that are made from other fruits, this is the place to go. I will say that you are not going to find traditional wines here. This is a unique distillery and winery that offers wine and spirits outside of the traditional norm. I visited Mad County while winery hopping on my travels back home. I'm pretty sure they sell the smoked version in white wine too -) At least they do one thing right and this make an AMAZING SMOKED WINE! Personally I like it room temperature, but they do like to serve it chilled. And, let me not forget to say if you're not able to stop by they do ship to most states within the USA! RV Friendly, Pet Friendly, Has a Patio, What more do you need! The only thing that they do not have are any yummy treats to enjoy while you eat, so that would be my only thing - but then again that could have something to do with being more of a wine tasting room vs food and drink type of establishment. This is a cute little spot to grab a glass, have a taste, or pick up a case of wine! They are also part of one of the wine trails kinda of like a passport mainly for fun for those who travel within the area/region. some for drinking and some for cooking etc. Loved seeing all the different wines and even homemade wine slushies great for those hot summer days! Not only did we buy a case of SMOKED WINE we also picked up some of the Margarita & Jalapeño Flavor Wine to mix and let's just say you must try them together! They had a very extensive list of red and white wines - all types of flavors. It was so nice to meet the staff and owner who were above and beyond friendly. We parked then van outside and left the dogs inside as it was raining. The SMOKED CABERNET WINE was the reason we came! The FLAVOR is about as UNIQUE as its name! Delicious is an understatement! Originally we went to Lush a local spot in Anniston that offered us this wine and OMG it blew my mind! We had to come check out the place for ourselves and boy am I glad we did! If you're looking for "Pet-Friendly Places" and Plenty of room for RV Parking then this is your stop! They are not too far off the exit in Heflin, Alabama.
